offspring

i’ve always loved a good documentary. who can deny the genious of an errol morris film? thanks to beth, i’ve broadened my documentary horizons. today, pushing my documentary boundaries, i dragged nigel to canvas to go see offspring. it’s an hour long film about a middle aged guy whose mom tells him he and his sister both are the product of a sperm donor. it turns out they’re from one of the first sperm donor banks, in london. and they spend the film searching for their father donor, but meeting siblings and other interesting people along the way.

so we part ways after the show and 5 minutes after i get nigel calls me in a tizzy. he’s mystified by the movie. he can’t help but wonder if he’s not his father’s child because his father exhibited the same behaviours as the non-bioligical fathers in the movie. sadly, his father has passed and didn’t really have much family, so there’s no obvious way for nigel to know except to test himself against his uncle. maybe he’ll take it on.
