another education rant

i used to think that people who home schooled their children were just hyper-religious freaks who wanted to put more god or creationism in their children’s education. primarily because the first home schooled kids i met all came from extremely religious families. now i know better, much better. i’m impressed with every parent who takes the time, the effort to home school their children. most of them are doing it because they want their children to learn how to think. all kids are taught in public schools is how to pass tests. there is no public value placed on our children thinking. i wanted to help teach some children how to think for themselves. i thought maybe i could teach in a public school, but someone who actually teaches informed me that i would fit in so well inside the system. i’d rebel, get in trouble and wind up helping no one. so now i’m looking for other ideas on how i can help kids in public school. anyone?
