since we can’t give blood

23Nov05

i’m not sure if you good straight folks out there know it, but despite the consistent shortage of blood in the US, homos – especially sexually active ones – are discouraged from donating our precious cells to the red cross. i guess they’re afraid of some dude freakin out going “i don’t want no gay blood in me” or something like that dude in oklahoma whose family was sent a gay man for that show “wife swap.”

anyhow i figured since i can’t give blood, i’d like to do something good, and although i’ve donated my body after i’m dead, i might donate it while i’m alive too. specifically to the aids vaccine trials that are running here. the development is pretty far along but they need more volunteers for a large scale human trial. there’s no risk of getting hiv from this particular type of vaccine, so it seems like a good bet to me.
