live a little, die a little
the senate has killed the renewal of the patriot act. a bipartisan team of senators successfully filibustered the renewal, which could not be broken despite the fact that republicans totally dominate the senate. hooray for inalienable rights, right?
wrong. it turns out that back in 2002 the president signed a secret order that allowed the NSA to spy on people with no warrant whatsoever. They basically monitored any and all international email and voice communications originating in the US. I’m betting if you read my blog, you (a) probably live in the US and (b) definitely send email and make calls overseas. All of us, then, have been monitored by the NSA in some capacity over the past 4 years. feels good, huh?
